Resources: OWL
Internet provides us, teachers and professors, with numberless sites where to find resources. But only a handful of those sites are really as good as the one provided by the University of Purdue. Their site is called OWL (an acronym of Online Writing Lab).
With big eyes as its homonym, this site casts its sight on teaching activities, houses writing resources and instructional material and gives us a free service of the Writing Lab at Purdue. Furthermore, their responsible offers tutors and a grammar blog. To have a deeper knowledge of OWL and, of course, take fully advantage of it, please click here: http://owl.english.purdue.edu Papers: CLIL In our eagerness to share innovations related to teaching a foreign language-in our case, it is English- we think the following article is a good starting point. The abstract of the article “First languages and age in CLIL and non-CLIL contexts” introduces us the CLIL methodology, in vogue for teaching a Foreign Language.
"CLIL programmes have experienced rapid growth since 1994, and today are widely implemented throughout Europe. The present study seeks to shed light on the issue of foreign language acquisition, type of exposure and age in school contexts by analysing the influence of the learners’ two first languages (Catalan and Spanish, for two groups of learners, and Basque and Spanish, for three groups) in CLIL and non-CLIL programmes in EFL. The results show a link between the type of programme and the production of borrowings. Age (and possibly language typology) is strongly linked to the production of lexical inventions." Read the complete paper... BOW Guests: Carlos Haller Our site has been immensely enriched by the contribution of Dr Carlos Haller. Dr Haller has been related to the U.B.A as a lawyer and, after retirement, he has specialized in history. People related to the BOW methodology and web site are enormously proud about Dr Haller’s contribution – we are doing our best in order to have Dr. Haller as a regular contributor in our page. His first article is about a topic whose relevance has gained significant importance in national and international media in recent times: the Malvinas/Falkland - Falkland/Malvinas Islands. You are invited to read an interesting and entertaining article called “etymological Malvinas" to know a bit more about these Southern Islands (the article is in Spanish)
